Many employers band together into this 401K plan to create economies of scale to lower fees, reduce administrative work, and provide better lower cost investment options.

IF you do nothing, you will automatically be enrolled into a Vanguard target date fund (coinciding with your expected retirement age) with a 2% salary deferral. If you want to defer more of your salary into your 401K savings account OR want a different investment vehicle than a target date fund, you'll have to complete some paperwork. For most people, choosing to save into a tax efficient account (like a 401K) is all you'll need to do. Saving is the most important part. Just enroll and you'll automatically be enrolled into an appropriate low cost target date fund! You can choose the standard Vanguard Indexed target date funds, OR choose the Blackrock indexed "ESG" (i.e. considerations towards environmental, social, corporate governance impact) target date funds. Both are very low fees and prudent selections.
